Bishop Rachel to deliver her Maiden speech in House of Lords
Thursday 3 March 2016
The Bishop of Gloucester, the first female bishop in the House of Lords, will make her Maiden speech on Monday 7 March. This will be another landmark moment, where history will be made for the House of Lords and the Church of England.
The Right Revd Rachel Treweek will make her introductory speech in a debate on women’s empowerment and representation in the UK, to link with and highlight International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8 March.
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality.
Bishop Rachel said: “As a follower of Jesus Christ I am committed to the flourishing of all and enabling people to fulfil their God-given potential, so it’s wonderful to be giving my maiden speech on an issue as important as gender equality.”
