This exploration begins from the recognition that the biological world is full of pain and struggle, and the traditional Christian explanations of this in terms of a fall-event are scientifically problematic and also dubious in terms of the doctrine of God. Taking evolutionary science seriously, and working from Scripture and contemplation, Southgate proposes a way of understanding divine glory that gives due weight to the pathos of the world while emphasising both God’s sovereignty and God’s redemptive love.
Led by Dr Christopher Southgate, originally trained as a research biochemist and is now Principal of the South West Ministry Training Course, and Associate Professor in Interdisciplinary Theology. His books include the edited textbook God, Humanity and the Cosmos, and The Groaning of Creation.
