Worship Officer

My role is a new one for the Diocese of Gloucester. I am a resource person for the diocese in the broad areas of worship, liturgy and music. I work in the Department of Ministry, in 4, College Green, and am charged with helping congregations and ministers to work towards that goal which we find in our Diocesan Mission Statement: "Offering worship that honours God and transforms lives." That's a great goal for us to have as the people of God in this part of the Church, and the world, and one which, of course, includes everyone equally, whether ordained or lay, young or old, male or female.

I hope that I am not the 'liturgical police!' My job is rather to be something of a conduit for resources. I am building up relationships with national organisations whose brief has to do with worship. I am familiar with the texts, resources and people who can help us all to worship in more imaginative, transforming and engaging ways. I can assist in providing training in areas such as leading worship; selecting music; getting the most out of the texts we are provided with; using space, movement, symbol and gesture appropriately; and understanding the theology of our liturgy. I am the secretary of the Bishop's Prayer, Worship and Spirituality Group, and will be responsible for delivering the projects which that group comes up with.

Do contact me in the Department, where I usually work on Tuesday and Thursday.
