Lord of the Rings fans are invited to series of events at Kingfisher Church in Gloucester, which use Tolkien’s work to explore Christianity.
Fortnightly, from Monday 22 February, fans can meet at The Cavern Club in College Street to talk about Middle Earth’s relation to all things spiritual.
It follows a successful Christianity for Star Wars fans series that ran last summer, which drew people from church and non-church backgrounds.
Assistant Pastor Stuart Gray said, “You don’t have to be a Christian at all – you just have to be a fan of Tolkien’s writing. Christian history has informed a lot of mythology and there are lots of links between the books and the Bible. I’m a self-confessed geek and I love this sort of thing.”
Stuart Gray and Morwenna Bennett will be leading the discussions which will look at topics like; who the heroes are, the danger and the opportunity in temptation, the power of sacrifice, the call to adventure, and fellowship.
The first meeting is on Monday 22 February at 7pm at The Cavern Club, College Street, Gloucester, GL1 2NE.
