The 2017 national Christmas campaign for the Church of England. Find out how to get involved here.
The worship, prayer and spirituality group have produced three simple prayer cards:
At the recent Bishop’s Training Day, sample Advent packs were given away free to clergy as an example of how they might want to package them. Each pack contained the folded card and a tea light in a small press lock bag (4.5″ x 5.5″). The packs are very simple to produce – you might want to gather a group of people to put them together, praying for the person who will receive it. They make a fantastic ‘give away’ for the season’s services – Advent Sunday, Christingle, Christmas tree festivals, crib services etc and offer an opportunity to engage people in prayer and reflection in their home.
A family advent
We have a new Advent resource from diocesan Children and Families Officer, Jo Wetherall, which can be used in the home and with children. It has craft ideas, stories, simple explanations and activities which are easy ways to get the little people in your life thinking about their faith at Christmas time. Please do share these with your toddler groups, your schools and your children’s groups as well as the families in your church. You can download the full version here (for most printers you need to print two sided, short edge flip).
2017 advent samplers
This attractive collection of daily readings is drawn from a selection of BRF’s Bible reading notes and from its 2017 Advent book, Christmas through the Keyhole by Derek Tidball. It contains words from Bishop Rachel. In all Christian traditions personal Bible reading and reflection is a practice to be fostered if faith is to grow deep roots. At a time of the year when baubles and tinsel can take over, it’s even more important to find ways of keeping perspective and listening out for God’s still small voice. This sampler offers a range of styles and approaches to try.
