Published: Tuesday May 23, 2017

Following the tragic events which took place in Manchester last night, the General Election Hustings due to take place this evening at Gloucester Cathedral has been cancelled.

Prayers for Manchester will be held at Evensong from 5.30pm. Candles and a prayer station are also available in the Cathedral for anyone who wishes to come and reflect throughout the day.

The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, Dean of Gloucester said, “Our prayers are for Manchester today. Such senseless acts will not divide good people. Everyone is welcome to join us as we pray in the cathedral at 5.30pm.”

 A Collect for Peace

O God, the author of peace and lover of concord,
to know you is eternal life and to serve you is perfect freedom:
Defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies;
that we, surely trusting in your defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord.

A prayer for all affected

God of Hope,
we come to you in shock and grief and confusion of heart after the horror of events in Manchester.

We remember those who have died, and all those who mourn them; we pray for healing of body and mind for the injured, and a blessing on the work of the emergency services and hospital staff.
Help us to find peace in the knowledge
of your loving mercy to all your children,
and give us light to guide us out of our darkness
into the assurance of your love,
In Jesus Christ our Lord.

  1. I know it is a very bad day with more to come, I am one that believes the government of any country, any religion should really start watching people from there own country or from other countries, especially those that leave and go to countries that the ISIS or other radical faction work out of. If they go to those countries and then return the chances are they will not be of good behaviour.
