Chair of the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC)

Published: September 5, 2018

The Bishop of Gloucester is seeking to appoint a new Chair to lead the Diocesan Advisory Committee in its work to support parishes as they plan for and manage changes to their buildings, in ways that balance care and conservation, and enable worship and mission.

This is a great time to join us! The Gloucester DAC first met in 1919 and will soon be celebrating its 100th anniversary. The Committee’s functions include:

  • To offer churches advice, support, and guidance in relation to design and developments to church buildings and churchyards
  • To advise the Diocesan Chancellor on faculty petitions relating to proposed conservation works, alterations and upgrades to church buildings and works to churchyards.
  • To encourage best practice and promote conservation principles.

Our DAC is made up of clergy and lay people with specific areas of professional expertise and interests, such as archaeology, bells, clocks, lighting, organs, stained glass, heating, re-orderings, significant project management etc., as well as conservation of our historic buildings. We provide advice to more than 380 churches, 70% of which are grade I or grade II* listed.

We are seeking an individual with a real passion and enthusiasm for the mission of the church, for our buildings and conservation, who has a practical and pragmatic approach to running effective meetings, where participants are equally respected and where specialist advice and guidance can be sought and shared.

This is a voluntary position for which travel and other appropriate expenses are offered.
