St Phillip & St James, Leckhamton (Pip and Jim’s) are embarking on an ambitious and extensive reordering of the church, aiming to provide a warm, welcoming, safe and wholly inclusive space that is open to individuals and groups, seven days a week, finding refreshment and friendship regardless of their circumstance; in essence it will be a community space as well as a place of inclusive worship.
In support of Pip and Jim’s initiative to raise over £170,000 from the efforts of the congregation towards the full project cost of around £2.5 million, John Horan, a former police officer turned mental health chaplain who has been a priest at Pip & Jim’s for 20 years, agreed in what he describes as ‘ a complete moment of madness’, to do a wing walk with Aerosuperbactics Wingwalkers.
To date the Wing Walk (which happened on 15 June 2019) has raised over £7,800 including Gift Aid!
John says, ‘it was the most fantastic experience, scary but in a good way and wonderfully exhilarating. I am deeply grateful to all those who have donated so generously and for the wonderful support of family and friends from Pip and Jim’s on the day’.
