‘Gospel Cannibalism and the Battle over Jesus’

May 22, 7:30 pm

18th Annual Biblical Interpretation Lecture, supported by the International Centre for Biblical Interpretation.

Professor Chris Keith, Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity, St Mary’s University, Twickenham

‘Gospel Cannibalism and the Battle over Jesus’

Scholars have long recognized that the written Gospels of early Christianity take up and re-present the content of earlier Gospels. Often overlooked, however, is the role of manuscript, as a media form, in this process, as well as its significance to the traditions’ various claims to authority. This lecture will trace the ‘competitive textualization’ of the Jesus tradition from the Gospel of Mark through the Gospel of Thomas.

Tickets are free but please email to reserve your place – or book via:

Drinks will be served after the lecture.
