Meditation and the Radiance of Compassion
28/04/2018, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Cotswold Farm, Duntisbourne Abbots, nr. Cirencester, Gloucestershire GL7 7JS
Contemplative Day Retreat
“The love of God creates in us such a oneing that when it is truly seen, no person can separate themselves from another.”
So writes Julian of Norwich, her words echoing countless witnesses who have come to realise their shared nature with God.
To know this union we need to return to where we are, and be restored to ourselves. We need to negotiate the subtle veils that obscure the present moment, to realise that God is never absent, but that we have been absent from ourselves. Until, through the process of arriving at interior stillness, we come to know that we are one with God, and within this silent union compassion is born.
Through a programme of silent meditation, talks and conversation, we will consider:
- The interior skills that support the practice of stillness
- The challenges we can face in our practice
- How silence and self-forgetfulness dissolve the illusion that we are separate from God
- How the knowledge of our shared nature with God gives birth to compassion.
Meditation is about seeing clearly and acting with compassion.
It begins with compassion, is sustained by compassion, and leads to compassion.
