Churches
In the Diocese we have nearly 400 churches, including some of the finest in the country. 90 per cent of them are listed buildings, 38 per cent being grade one.Church buildings are the responsibility of the parishes concerned, but in most cases consent needs to be obtained before carrying out any alterations or significant repairs. The Diocesan advisory Committee (DAC) will need to be consulted as part of the process of obtaining the necessary consent or 'faculty'.
The DAC is also a useful source of advice on a wide range of topics, including maintenance and reordering of churches, heating, lighting, sound systems, churchyards etc.
