Children & Young People
The Children and Young People's Department exists to work alongside schools, parishes and other partners to:
- Encourage every child to have life-enriching encounters with the Christian faith and know Jesus
- Build relationships to empower children and young people to make a full contribution to the life of their community that reflects the Christian gospel
- Provide professional support and resources for those working with children and young people in the name of the Church, so that they might demonstrate the highest quality in their life and practice.
The department supports all aspects of the Church's educational work, supporting schools and parishes in their ministry and mission. To this end, the department's services are delivered through a network of schools, children groups and youth groups distributed across the diocese. In total, this amounts to some 116 primary schools, two secondary schools and approximately 50 children and youth groups. As well as aided, controlled and foundation schools there are also five affiliated community secondary schools and a growing network of chaplaincies in higher and further education institutions. This represents over 50,000 children, young people and the adults who care for them, who come into weekly contact with the department and the diocese.
The department regularly publishes new resources through Jumping Fish, to support work in churches, schools and parishes. These publications are available through the REsource Centre, located in College Green, Gloucester.
